Rob Garza met Eric Hilton in 1995 at Washington D.C.'s Eighteenth Street Lounge, which Hilton co-owns. The pair shared similar tastes in music and quickly began creating songs that compiled their favorite musical styles. Thievery Corporation's first two EPs and their 1997 LP, Sounds from the Thievery Hi-Fi gained them an underground following that was boosted by small, DIY tour dates. Thievery Corporation experienced bigger success with their 2002 album, The Richest man in Babylon, which was incredibly well received by audiences and major music critics. Critics also enjoyed Thievery Corporation's 2005 album, The Cosmic Game, which featured such high-profile guest artists as Perry Farrell and David Byrne.
The success of The Cosmic Game allowed Thievery Corporation the opportunity perform numerous high profile tour dates, including Lollapalooza in 2006. Radio Retaliation was released in 2008 and featured the group's most prominent display of their political views and critiques. The album marked Thievery Corporation's first Grammy nomination, the beginning of a high profile concert schedule, and the duo's latest studio album.
Since that time, Thievery Corporation has scored Hilton's 2010, debut movie, Babylon Central, as well as released a greatest hits album, titled It Takes a Thief. Fans are eagerly awaiting the release of Culture of Fear on June 28, as well as 2011 tour dates that begin on June 23. Like many of their tours, Thievery Corporation will begin their concert schedule in Washington D.C. before heading to Europe. While there, Thievery Corporation will perform tour dates in nations like Hungary and Greece before heading to Australia on July 30. The DJ duo will return to the US on August 14, but will finish their 2011 tour dates in the first half of September. With Thievery Corporation visiting so many locations in such a short amount of time, check Eventful for all the concert schedule info.
